Master Bedroom Re-Do

It had been almost 4 years ago that we moved into our house. Our (my parents) bedroom was the only room we hadn't touched yet - it was time for a change.  Evidently it's the one room I didn't take a picture of when we moved in, probably because it was nothing special.

After cruising through Pinterest I found some inspiration.  Then it was time to convince Dustin that he needed to do this project for me :)  After 4 hours in Menards, two tired Kiddos and much more money spent that I thought we would need :( we headed home and got started.  It turned out SOOO much better than I thought it would.  I'm so happy with and and love waking up in my bright, sunny bedroom!

My Baby furniture!  Dad painted it an off white color with a little bit of pearl in it.  I put new hardware on it and dustin replaced the drawer glides.  They are like new and I LOVE them :)  Dustin also built a surround for the TV and mounted it to the wall to get it up off of the dresser.

My changing table.  And my mirror project!  Dustin HATES my coral mirror but I think its one of my favorite things in this room.

My beautiful headboard!  I got the old door at the Antique Shoppe here in town and Dustin built the whole headboard and frame.  We decided to go a head and go with a king sized bed this time.  And he wired up mason jar reading lights on each side complete with the vintage looking edison bulbs.  We each have our own switch with a dimmer.... awesome.
Of course Boo was sitting so pretty on my bed this turned into a little Boo photo shoot.

I just love this little guy.

The Ode to Glo

Mom and Dad finished their basement just in time for Kristi's party last Saturday.  We are calling the basement the "Ode to Glo" because Dad was finally able to use a lot of Grandma's stuff that he had kept.  Here is the process!
Some of the block wall had to come down to make doorways wider.
Room at the bottom of the steps before.
And After!  Dad will eventually put the rest of his Coke stuff in this room - including a vintage Coke cooler that holds 1000+ cans.  Its a monster.
The main room.  This was done once in the early 70's I believe.  The paneling and nasty floor tiles had to go.
After!  We have another place to hang out :)
View from back room before...
And After!
Dad re-used the bar that was there but recovered the front with doors from Glo's pantry.  The cabinets in the bar area were from the pass through in Glo's dining room.
The Spandrel is something Grandma saved out of the old funeral home in Fairbury before they tore it down to build one of the apartments.  It was in Grandma Jane's flower shop before it came here.
When you are sitting on the couch it is just like sitting in Glo's living room.  Dad took apart her book case piece by piece and saved it so it could someday be moved downstairs.  And it looks great!  He stuck her TV back in there and put a lot of her things back on the shelves.
Behind the bar.
Back room before.
And after!  They put their old dining room table in chairs in there for overflow seating.  Eventually Dad's old glass bakers cases will go in there filled with all the old crap he's collected over the years :)And just cuz its cute - Asher and Papa's boots

Why Do I Do This To Myself?!?!

I finally finished painting the Toy Room!!!  Yay!  And I did it all by myself.  That means don't look too close.  Rabe's came and cleaned the carpet in there yesterday and for the most part RJ's stains came out of the carpet.  Hopefully tonight I'll get the curtains up and some of the toys that are over-flowing in the living room moved down there.  Dustin didn't get the entertainment center and toy box painted.  No surprise there.  I guess that will have to wait.  My guess is that it will never get done at this point.  Oh well, I tried.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the aqua paint - still not sure about the red.  Here are a couple of pictures from last night.

So getting on to the "why do I do this to myself" part of the post.  I'm tired.  Really tired.  We have the first Big Birthday party tomorrow and I am SO unorganzied.  I'm just really not good at this kind of stuff and rely on my Mom/Grandma/Annie/Heidi/everyone else to help me out.  Thanks guys!  I was doing my hair Tuesday morning and was looking at the middle bathroom.  I had never looked at it that closely and decided the border was kind of ugly.  So, I ripped it off.  That pry wasn't the best decision I ever made because there as a THICK silicony.rubbery.guck underneath that would not come off.  I've about had a freakin nervous breakdown the last few nights as I've worked til about midnight trying to scrape and rub it off.  Last night I had a f*** it moment and put spackle all over it and sanded it down this morning.  Hopefully the paint I got this week is still about the same as it was when it was painted 8+/- years ago???  With my luck I'm sure I'll be re-painting my whole bathroom tomorrow night.  I wanted so bad to call my Uncle Bob Tuesday but my "Bob budget" is blown for the year decade and needed this to be low-budget.  So if you are coming to the party tomorrow, please, don't laugh.  Maybe I'll just hang a really big picture there.

I'll leave you with a not so good picture of Asher but one I've been trying to get for a couple of weeks.  They have these little cars sitting around the square in Pontiac and this is the one in front of Bernardi's.  It seems like its been raining every week when they come visit.  I was scared he was going to fall so it was a really quick picture but the cars are so cute and each painted differently!

Projects

To get ready for the big 1st Birthday parties we have coming up Dustin painted the Garage floor and did some touch up painting to the trim in the garage.

My Dad refinished our wood shutters and they are GORGEOUS!  Now we just need to get them put back up before the big parties :)

My last big project is to get the toy room done in the next 2 weeks.  Dustin & I got the paint on Saturday morning and I tried to start painting on Sunday.  It left me crying for my Grandma Jane.  Hopefully sometime this week I can get that finished and the carpet cleaned next week.  The main color for the room is Aqua about the same shade as the stool in the picture.  Then the wall with the windows will be Gumball Red.  I know that seems like a weird combo but I think it will be cool with the furniture painted white (thanks Dad) and his little Radio Flier Rocket and red and white peddle car down there.

Mom & Dad's House

Some of you have been asking me for pictures of Mom and Dad's house. Here is a slide show with most of the before and after pictures.

House Pictures

My beautiful Christmas Tree! I think this might be the last year for the funky tree, doesn't go too well with the rest of the house.
The upstairs livingroom. Last week it got new carpet and paint. Thanks Mom and Dad for the hand-me-down furniture!
From the dining room. Note the discoloration on the table. Never leave one of those scented oil things out where it could get spilled...
Dinging room. I LOVE my hutch! It was Grandma Glo's and Grandma Jane refinished it to match my table.

New Kitchen! Bob came last week and painted in here too. Then he did the glass tile backsplash.

Why does everything they make for kids have to be plastic and ugly?
Tile on the backsplash
Overall I think we've pretty much adjusted to the new house. There is still a room full of boxes downstairs that I need to go through. There is nothing up on the walls yet either. I order some stuff from Uppercase Living yesterday to put up. Dustin doesn't like having a master bath because I wake him up when I take a shower in the morning. BooHoo. I love living in Fairbury because they deliver your mail right to your front door. Until you've lived somewhere that you have to phyically get out of the car in the rain/now to get it you can't appreciate this. I will post pictures of Asher's room soon. He was still sleeping when I took these this morning.

Our "New" House

Well after 3 months of living with Mom and Dad they are moving out this weekend! I'm not sure yet if I'm happy or not. I would be happy to have them keep living with us except for Bondo. Sorry buddy, but you have to go. They have moved most of their furniture out already and the house seems a little empty now. Good thing I have 2 storage units full to fill it back up! My Uncle Bob is going to be painting on Monday and then doing a tile backsplash in the kitchen. The new carpet will be put in upstairs on Tuesday. I took Wednesday off to hopefully start unpacking all our crap from storage. Things seem to be moving really fast now! We now have enough room for visitors so they won't have to sleep on the couch and thank God Dustin and I don't have to share a bathroom anymore. Too bad I don't get to keep the cleaning lady.

I think we're really gonna like living back in Fairbury and Mom and Dad will only be a block away. I'll post pictures when we start to get some stuff done. Not like most of you haven't seen the house already :)

Glo's House

Mom and Dad have started to tear into Grandma Glo's house. There are going to be some major changes but I think its going to look awesome when they get done. Here are a few before pictures.
Here is looking from the dining room into the kitchen. This whole wall including the closet will be gone.
This is the kitchen before. The wall behind the fridge will be pushed back another 4 feet. Last night they had the kitchen completely gutted already.
Just having the panelling off of the wall with the windows and the beams down from the ceiling has made a huge difference.
Taylor posing with the walker in her new room. Note the pretty orange carpet.
Where the whirlpool used to be - the stairs will be going down through this hole now.

The Big Move

Well we had our first night at Mom and Dad's last night... or would you call it our house.... hmmm that will take a while to get used to. We worked until about 10:30 last night and only got enough accomplished to have a bed to sleep in and one outfit to wear the next day. The house in Forrest is completely empty we just have to go back and clean.

Its going to be hard going from a house (even a small one) to a bedroom. If you would have told me a few years ago that I would be moving back home, into my old room, with my husband and baby I would have never believed you. But it will be fine. It was hard getting ready this morning because Asher's crib is in our room. So I can't really turn on the light and get ready in our room, or upstairs because mom and dad are still sleeping. On top of all that I have to share a bathroom with 3 men. RJ and I already had to have the toilet seat discussion this morning. The new carpet is in downstairs and I think Dustin really likes "his" room. I'll post pictures when we get a little more settled in.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Today is the day when I officially start freaking out. We close on our house a week from today and Tuesday will be the first night that we will be staying with Mom and Dad. There is a lot of working being done at Mom and Dads which Mom is not thrilled about. Josh has been there the past couple of days putting up light fixtures and can lights. The heating guys are running gas lines and putting a heater in the garage. I've been trying to pack a little at a time but now we're down to the stuff that is hard to pack. Grandma Jane and Annie are there today trying to pack up my kitchen. I guess that gives me an excuse to not have to cook. This weekend is a busy one too so we wont be able to do much moving. We have Justin Haas' wedding Saturday then Kane's baptism and the Kafer golf outing on Sunday. The carpet is being laid in the basement at Mom and Dad's on Tuesday so we can move all our stuff in that night. I'll be glad when this is all over, but its going to be hard living out of a bedroom for the next few months.

Sold!

Last night we accepted an offer on our house! We don't have anything signed yet but I'm pretty sure its a go. Now we have to be thinking about packing up and moving on in with Mom and Dad. Mom thought it wouldn't be so bad until she realized that Boo will probably be sleeping with them every night! I'm excited that the house sold so fast and that we will be moving but very sad at the same time. I really do love this house and will be sad to leave it. But as Asher grows we will need the room and eventually a yard. We're going to decide on a closing date on Monday then it will be official!

For Sale by Owner

Somehow Boo managed to get in a couple of the pictures :)
As some of you may know Dustin and I were always planning on moving to Mom and Dad's house sometime in the future because they were always going to move to Grandma Glo's. Well in the future seems a lot different now that it isnt the future anymore! Now that Grandma has passed away reality has hit. I will be VERY sad to leave here because I LOVE this house and we've finally got it where we want it. We weren't sure how long it would take us to sell it so we decided to stick a for sale sign in the yard last Saturday. Since then we have shown it 3 times and will show it again tomorrow!

This seems to be moving really fast but thats better than having no one interested at all. If it does sell we'll be moving in with mom and dad for a few months (that could get interesting!) until they complete their overhaul on Grandma's house. So keep your fingers crossed for us that one of the 4 are really intersted and if you know of anyone looking in the area point them in our direction.
